2 a.m. showers bring
deep, sinful whispers,
the pitter-patter of wet dreams and
flashes of brilliance.

Finish it (22/300)
A book arrives that
part of me wishes was
my own...
red hardcover and
pristine sheath; will I ever?

Duck Front Property (21/300)
A water-logged bale of
hay, now a wood duck's nest with
a lake front view.

Grasses and Crops (20/300)
Foxtail grass, lonely in
the w i n d,
awaits friends with
yellow flowers.

His eyes (19/300)
Murky emerald green with
reddish brown bark and
lush brown soil found
in hazel eyes that
frame the d e p t h s of
his soul

Pillow Fight (18/300)
Eco-friendly, bamboo, cotton pillows are
less messy than down in a
big-box parking lot

Fields of Gold (16/300)
Fields of gold lumber gracefully over
hills of emerald green like a
child frolicking through
buttercups on a
dewy, fresh spring morning.

Entangled (15/300)
Naked skin, sick with
passion, glistens in the
hot afternoon sun and
streaks through sin and
entanglement.

Curves of a sunset (13/100)
Blue-grey clouds peer above
the curves of a
peach horizon like
lace across a
woman's breasts.

City (12/100)
Grass, dirt and dandelions;
latex gloves wrongly discarded,
a pigeon coo's before taking flight.
I wish I could follow.

leads to guilt, and two
more plants.

30 - Revenge
I justify not having
moments of paying close attention
with "I'm too busy,"
and realize life is also
too busy to pay attention
to me.

29 - Tears
Face down in the middle of the road
pleading to be covered by the snow
a cat, once suffering,
lay broken backed, unloved, forgotten,
and lifeless, bringing me to tears.
Not all small stones are happy.

26 - Cheese
So desperately concerned with the
fate of the cheese
he mewls a plea;
this from the mute cat.
Okay okay so a little info on this one. I have four cats I affectionately refer to as 'The Pride', one of which has been a silent addition to my family since I bottle fed him. The only noises he has every made were truly no more than a crooning noise made with his mouth closed and a slight up lift of his chest. He yelped once when I set a chair down on his foot accidentally, however no other sounds have ever really come from him. I was cutting a brick of cheese today for supper and I had him and another cat watching intently. He meowed, and it took me a minute to realize that raspy, half-dead noise had come from him. I was absolutely amazed.

24 - Icicles
Perched precariously over a garden
dead from fall past,
winter's rage threatens to fall.

21 - Truck
Flakes of snow piled like
purified sand dunes against
the flattened white-wall tires
of an almost forgotten 55' GMC truck.

20 - Ignored
The brown book
in which I write my words
has not heard from me in days,
covered by the lotto ticket
that shattered my dreams.

19 - Reflection
The red light tells me there's power
but its not turned on,
yet, I can watch the hockey game
upside down.

18 - Remnants
The decorations
in the soft blue lights
of the Mall's Christmas tree
remind me of smiles and
one baby, very unhappy
with the stranger
in the red suit.

16 - Angel
I saw an angel today;
she asked me for directions.
I wonder if God will forgive me
for not knowing the way.

15 - Interrupted
I interrupted a conversation
between Mother Earth and Father time,
and Aurora Borealis stilled my breath.

13 - Wisdom Teeth
Despite the extraction
I am wise enough to know
wisdom teeth are attached to ones ears

11 - Fairies
Plush, fresh morning snow
lay like silently resting fairies
on the branches of
sleeping trees.

6 - Purrfect
Nothing tells you you're loved
with such few words
as a cat bumping his head against yours.

4 - Pomegranate
I realized
Pomegranates are best eaten
naked.
Thank you very much, Fiona and Kaspa, for featuring this piece in the river.
